China to issue 3G licenses at year end or early next year (Dec 15)
Li Yizhong, minister of industry and information technology, said at the press conference recently held by the State Council Information Office that China will issue third generation mobile telecommunication licenses at the end of this year or early next year. The license of the home-grown 3G mobile telecommunications standard, TD-SCDMA, will be granted to China Mobile, while the newly-established China Unicom will get the WCDMA license and China Telecom will be granted the CDMA2000 license.
