September: World Water Congress & ExhibitionThe Israel Trade Representative in China in conjunction with the Israel Export & International Cooperation Institute successfully concluded a business delegation of 9 water treatment companies to the IWA’s 5th World Water Congress and Exhibition in Beijing during September 10-14. The delegation, headed by Mr. Oded Distel, Head of the Israeli National Water Plan in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, and by Mr. Avraham Israeli, Head of the Environmental Division at the Israeli Export Institute, was part of a national project implemented by the Israeli government to position the Israeli water industry as a world leader, and increase Israeli exports of water technologies to foreign markets. The delegation consisted of 9 company’s senior representatives, who explored cooperation and potential projects. Professional seminars were held throughout the delegation with local Water Authorities from Beijing, Shenzhen, and Haerbin. The delegation also met with local companies in the field of water consulting, water treatment and distributors, in specially tailored one-on-one meetings in Beijing, Shenzhen and Hong-Kong. The Israeli technologies received great interest by Chinese counterparts that are currently seeking efficient solutions for water pollution, water treatment and desalination. In addition, the Israeli delegation invited the water authority seniors to visit “Watec 2007”, the international water fair that will take place in Israel in October 2007. China is expected to become one of the world’s largest water technologies consumers due to its accelerated industrialization and the pollution of water sources in this process, and due to its shortage in natural water resources, that characterizes the Northern part of China. In the 11th 5 year plan that has been implemented from the beginning of this year - environmental protection and particularly the water issue have been defined as one of its primary targets.
