Energy
China is now the world’s second-largest energy producer and consumer, having nearly doubled its consumption over the past decade. China is heavily dependent on fossil fuel derived energy production, with coal and oil constituting 70 and 20 percent of China’s energy consumption mix respectively. On the production side, China is producing 73.44% of its energy output from fossil fuel resources, 22.18% by hydropower, and less than 10% from renewable sources. Nevertheless, the renewable market grew by 15.5% year-on-year in 2010 while the 12th five-year plan explicitly aims for a reduction of carbon dioxide emission of 17% by 2015.
While renewable energy development is driven largely by the monstrous energy demand juxtaposed with forecasts of limited supply of traditional energy resources, renewable energy development is driven also by pressure to reduce environmentally-harmful emissions. China has now set a strategic goal to become a world leader of the green energy evolution. China not only wishes to gain global political legitimacy but also develop self-sufficient and sustainable energy market. For this we saw fit to upload the following articles, courtesy of various consulting firms, to enhence the reader's understanding of China's energy market and it's ambitious goals.
